Excursion
Greek-Armenian Ethno Jazz
Excursion is L.A.’s original Greek/Armenian jazz group. Starting in the early 1990’s, pianist Peter Deneff and bassist Vik Momjian began their explorations of progressive jazz through the lens of their respective Greek and Armenian cultures. Accumulating other influences along the way, such as Cuban, Brazilian and Caribbean music, Excursion’s music has evolved into a rich tapestry of sound that can only be described as intoxicating. The addition of world-class sax and flute player Brandon Fields brings an element of classic jazz and funk tradition to the group. Rounding out the ensemble is the band’s rhythmic powerhouse, David Libman on drums. Excursion has also been joined by world-class sax and flutists Robert Kyle (who is featured on thier self titled cd) and Bruce Babad. Excursion’s music and improvisations transport the audience to another space and delivers a performance that they will not soon forget! The band regularly performs at the Baked Potato in Studio City and Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Jazz Grill. The have been featured at the Playboy Pasadena Jazz Fest several times.
